After more than two years of existence, the Bangui hemodialysis center will soon be in service. The Ministry of Health and Population, on the occasion of World Health Day celebrated on 7 mars, convened a technical meeting to make the center operational.

Inaugurated in January 2020, part of the equipment and staff of this center was not yet complete. Thereby, to realize the operational possibilities of the said center, the Minister of Health gave a guided tour of the structure on Thursday 07 avril 2022. This was an opportunity for kidney disease specialists to present the equipment acquired and already installed..

This is an artificial kidney. When the patient's blood is taken, it will pass through here and come out the other side. Once the blood has passed through this circuit, the exchanges will be done so that the waste is eliminated before the blood is returned to the patient. We also have a device that allows us to determine the dry weight of the patient,” said Dr Cédric Ouanékponé., hemodialysis center manager.

According to officials, the activities of this center will be launched very soon. For this purpose, they rely on the availability and involvement of medical and paramedical teams. On his side, the head of the health department is counting on good collaboration between the medical teams in order to obtain better results.

“We have to work as a team. The clinician will necessarily have to work with the nephrologist. Clinicians will need to work with each other and with the lab. All medicine is involved in hemodialysis treatment. It's about showing that we too can practice high-level medicine.", said Dr. Pierre Somsé, health Minister.

Hemodialysis is the treatment of a patient's blood, whose kidneys are not working properly, using an artificial kidney. This hemodialysis center should make it possible to reduce medical evacuations abroad. These evacuations cost a lot of money to the Central African State and to individuals.
